I am a Sagittarius. Sagittarius is considered the traveler of the Zodiac and I fit that description perfectly. Sagittarius are always on a quest for wisdom, creativity, freedom and mobility. I guess that also makes me very adaptable as a single mom and a traveler. Being originally born in Hawaii and having a dad that worked for the airlines, travel is in my blood. I’m also an independent travel agent and freelance as a travel writer. I have always wanted my children to have an appreciation for travel and a desire to learn about different cultures and appreciate people’s differences.
There are a few ways I get my kids excited about travel and that is with food, hobbies, and the arts. I have also found that even adults can plan great vacations centered around these three activities as well. Our friends at ProFlowers wanted to know my dream vacation for this single mom and being a Sagittarius I could not narrow it down to just one. They even helped in the inspiration by delivering a beautiful bouquet straight from the grower. When my kids saw the ProFlowers box they were so excited to see it open. As a single mom I don’t get flowers very often and I was able to teach them about how to care for flowers and arrange them. In this way I also teach them about where the flowers come from. It’s the same way that we do when it comes to vacations and how we learn about different places. I chose three vacation destinations and these three places that are #MySummerStaycation – follow the hashtag and get inspired on your next vacation.

Monte Carlo in Monaco – F1 Grand Prix
I’m a big fan of international motorsports racing and especially F1 series and Le Mans. I love watching the races and being a down home Texan I’m lucky to have the Circuit of the Americas within reach here in Austin, TX. However, one of my dream vacations is to head to the French Riviera and specifically to Monte Carlo in Monaco in the latter part of May to experience the ultimate in European luxury by attending the F1 Grand Prix. With the grandstands located just off of the harbor where multi-million pound yachts bask in the Mediterranean sun, this would be my ideal vacation. The best part about watching these types of events is that you don’t have to sit on the grandstand to get the best seats or the best photographs. Grab a balcony, a patio or enjoy the sites of the locals and tourists.
Things to do:
Monte Carlo Casino – Large casino, theater and entertainment area
Oceanographic Musem of Monaco – Aquarium and a research institute
Prince Rainier’s Antique Car collection
Prince’s Palace (Palais du Prince)
Retracing the same route as Dan Brown’s character, Robert Langdon, in his best seller Inferno I was captivated by what I read in the book and curious about much of the artwork and places described in the novel. The second place on my list that would be my dream vacation is to retrace the same route in Dan Brown’s book in the Florence Inferno Tour. There seems to be a lot of these types of tours around and I think it’s a great way to cover many historic buildings, places and artwork mentioned in the book. Explore the secret passageways of Palazzo Vecchio and see the Hall of Geographical Maps and Dante’s death mask. Enter the Gate of Paradise, the Baptistry of Florence, Boboli Gardens, the Uffizi Gallery and the Vasari Corridor. So much art and history to see, this is definitely a must see on my list.
Things to Do:
Cinque Terre – If you like to hike this is the area to visit with beautiful sceneries, plush greenery and olive groves
Boboli Gardens – Also in Dan Brown’s book, Inferno, Boboli Gardens lies behind Pitti Palace. They are a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site.
Ponte Vecchio – Also part of the Inferno book, the bridge is as much of a landmark as it is useful. Running across the top of the Ponte Vecchio is part of the famous Vasari Corridor, built for the ruling Medicis by the Renaissance painter and designer Vasari.
Hawaii – Disney Aulani Resort
I had to include my birth state and of course Disney as part of my dream vacation destination. We’ve been through the Disney parks and resorts so why not take the same level of service and apply that to a beautiful Hawaii vacation. The Disney Aulani Resort located on the Island of Oahu is on my list for dream vacation destinations. Not only will the kids get to meet their favorite Disney characters and have lots of activities but adults will enjoy the spa treatments, golf and a lot of amenities exclusive to guests. Ranked #1 by Travel and Leisure in 2014 as the top family hotel this is a place I would love to take my family. Besides the pools and the beach, Laniwai, The Disney Spa is the real draw for me with hydrotherapy gardens and family treatments, exfoliation, and more. It’s also Hawaii and its beautiful landscape, history, culture and people are the highlights of my home state.
Things to Do
Diamond Head – Hike the iconic Diamond Head. I remember this short hike with the hundreds of stairs was a favorite past time of mine as a kid. When you get to the top you see beautiful views of the islands.
Iolani Palace – Visit one of the only official state residences on American soil. This palace was the residence of Hawaii’s monarchy and is now a museum.
Bishop Museum – another favorite of mine to visit as a kid, this museum explores not just Hawaiian history but also science and how the ancient Polynesians navigated to Hawaii using the stars.
