The Lakeway Resort and Spa sits right on the banks of Lake Travis offering guests a variety of amenities at this newly remodeled resort. I was thrilled to get the opportunity to have a to review some of those renovations so that I could tell you about the unique offerings that they have to offer guests. This particular resort caters to a variety of individuals. They cater to families, golfers, couples, and your water sports enthusiasts. With golf courses and the marina in short distance, whether you are getting ready for tee time or wanting to get the jet skis going you will find something for everyone. This resort is also dog-friendly so you can take the family pet with you.
For a resort, most if not all of the rooms afforded a view of the gorgeous and picturesque Lake Travis. Shimmering sunlight in the TX sun beams off of Lake Travis and the balconies on the 5th floor offer a panoramic view of such a wonderful Texas treasure. Rooms were clean as well as hallways, corridors and main sitting areas. Bedding and towels were plentiful and comfortable yet the rooms were not as large as would be expected since most resorts offer bigger options. This is due to the unique layout of the resort itself. If you have a large extended family, I would request one of the two main suites or make use of the condos that they have available next door to the property which offer anywhere from 2 to 3 bedroom condos. They are private owned, but you can book a vacation with Lakeway for one of those uniquely decorated condo choices and have full use of the resort. My guest and I were greeted to some fruit and cookies as a welcome amenity. If you have a private balcony eat breakfast out there or toast a glass of wine at sunset. I enjoyed the lHigh Speed Internet Access (wired and wireless). I really like the concierge service as they strive to accommodate your requests. Since we were looking to catch a sports event on TV, going to Masterson’s or taking suggestions from one of the employees for local eateries was a godsend, they were very helpful.
The Swimming Pools
Kids and adults alike will love the three swimming pools at this resort. Adults will love the infinity pool with a view that looks like the water’s edge drops off into Lake Travis. The Infinity pool also has a swim up bar, offering an array of mixed drinks, beer and wine. You can also lounge in the whirlpool or relax in a plentiful supply of beach chairs and umbrellas. The pool in the back also has a water polo or volleyball net for some competitive play. The key feature that kids and adults will like is the twisty water slide. I tried it and it’s fun. Kids seem to love it a lot and the unique fixture is dead center of all three pools. If you are at the top you get a great 360 degree view of the pools and surrounding resort. At night, there have a dive-in movie theater showing family friendly movies while you can still swim starting around 9 PM. If your kids take advantage of the Kid’s Club, your kids will be brought out poolside (no swimming) to watch the movie on a big projection screen outside.
Lakeway Resort and Spa also has a Kid’s Zone where moms and dads can leave kids ages 24 months and older for activities, games, toys, books, arts and crafts and movies. Located in the Austin I and II buildings, this The Kid Zone offers supervised kid-friendly activities for just $10 for the first hour and $5 for consecutive hours, per child. No reservations are required and walk-ins are welcome. Unsupervised minors under the age of 12 must be signed in by an adult; age 24 months and up are welcome. Maximum attendance up to four consecutive hours. Open daily 9am – 9pm.
There is a long list of activities and amenities as this resort. There is a separate review of the Spa services and another review that I’m going to do for their newly remodeled Masterson’s restaurant. What is unique about this resort is the Club at the Lake membership. Having a membership affords you the chance to take advantage of Lakeway amenities all year round. Members also enjoy the ease of making reservations to the nearby four golf courses, marina, tennis and Texas Sailing. This special membership includes resort privileges and upgrades for an economical membership price in addition to discounted room rates. Well worth the price. Also every afternoon they have a complimentary happy hour from 5 pm to 6pm with appetizers and drinks.
As a AAA 4 Diamond award winner, Lakeway Resort has also won many awards for meetings, weddings and more. You can plan your next event here and they will take care of you immensely with large and spacious meeting and ballrooms right next to Lake Travis. The Dow Hotel Company (DHC), a Seattle-headquartered hotel owner/investor, recently announced in 2012 a joint venture between DHC and The Carlyle Group’s Carlyle Realty Parnters VI, to acquire Lakeway Resort and Spa.
I would highly recommend booking your stay here. The resort was fantastic and the area has a lot of great restaurants and shops. There are a ton of things to do and the family will enjoy it.
