Are you looking for a special place to take a well-earned vacation? Why don’t you spend your holiday at Mauritius and see its? Whether you’re planning on travelling with the children or going solo, you’ll discover a safe and fun environment and an abundance of activities that will allow you to relax and leave your worries where they belong – far, far away.
One of the main attractions of Mauritius is, undoubtedly, its wealth of natural beauty. Located 2,000 kilometres off Africa’s southeast coast, the country is made up of islands that formed as a result of volcanic activity. That means, not only pristine, untouched beaches famous for sand so white you could powder your face with it, but also rugged mountain ranges.
For a sublimely relaxing holiday spent sunbathing and swimming, Trou aux Biches Beach is definitely recommended. Two kilometres long, it’s protected by a coral reef, so it’s really safe, as well as terrific for snorkeling. It’s certainly the perfect choice for a beach break if the children are going with you.
If you – or your kids – are hoping for something more adventurous, then head to Grand Baie Public Beach. It’s busier than Trou aux Biches, but offers loads of options for getting physical and enjoying watersports. Sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing and parasailing are all on the menu. What’s more, the bars andrestaurants in Grand Baie provide, not only a diverse array of fare – both local and international – but also jaw-dropping views of the sunset.
Animal parks and nature reserves
Have you or your young ones ever been up close and personal with a giant tortoise? If not, then include a visit to the Crocodile and Giant Tortoise Park on your itinerary. Guided walks will carry you through luscious tropical vegetation, from enormous bamboo plants to banana trees to palms. You’ll see crowds of crocodiles (from a safe distance, of course!) and be presented with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to feed a giant tortoise by hand.
Another fun animal experience is the Mauritius Safari and Bird Park. You’ll find more than 150 species of birds, originating from all over the world. There’s also a petting farm, where you can get close to deer, wild boars and cockatoos. But if you’re up for something that’s going to give you a bigger adrenaline rush, you can opt to either walk or drive in proximity to lion, tigers and cheetahs.
