I have never stayed at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston before but I can say it’s a real treat and delight for families as well as business travelers. On my recent stay I did not get a chance to check out all the amenities but I can say if you want a resort that has everything you need in close proximity to both Moody Gardens and Schlitterbahn.
A few of the photos I got to take of the Hotel itself is displayed in the slide show. Feel free to peruse the photos or read my thoughts on this hotel.
Our friends at the Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center provided us a complimentary stay while we got a chance to also visit the Spongebob Subpants adventure going on at Moody Gardens. I arrived late as I traveled here after a workday so I was completely exhausted. Being able to check in late with kids is a blessing as I don’t like to roadtrip speeding my way down somewhere and it gives the kids a chance to sleep on the way.
Upon check-in I was delighted that they had 24 hour room service. I thought the people at the front desk were very friendly and answered all of my questions. If you have ever been to Galveston Island, unless you are in the downtown area there isn’t a lot open late at night so I was able to get something to eat and settle in the next day for the press conference. I really enjoyed the room. It was a lot larger than most rooms and definitely very clean with ample views of the surrounding area. Linens were clean and the bathrooms were also large for family comfort. One of the main things I have to have in a hotel room when traveling with kids is a mini refrigerator. Even if it’s just snacks, it’s nice to have that to store fruit and other goodies I bring. I was disappointed at the soda machines in the hotel. While available on every floor it was $3.00 for a soda or bottled water. So my suggestion is to bring your drinks.
When we woke up the next day we got to explore the hotel a little bit more. They have breakfast at a place called Cafe in the Park. It’s a very pleasant cafe for easy to get breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was great for families. I thought the service, bus person and waitstaff were very friendly here and you have a wraparound glass where you can see the walkway to the kid’s club and the pool. I didn’t take advantage of the Kid’s Crew Activities on this trip but they have a ton of great activities for kids and their families in the hotel. They great thing about it is that the activities are all FREE for guests and range from crafts, activities, photo opps, karaoke and limbo. Many of the activities are around the pool so mom and dad can participate with their kids. I think Moody Gardens probably has one of the most extensive kid’s club activities for families. They also have activities seven days a week in the summer.
I thoroughly enjoyed my one night stay here and I think its a fantastic hotel for families. There are a few things I wish I could have checked out such as the spa, the evening reception, the Shearn’s Seafood and Prime Steaks and Blossom’s ice creamery.
